SFAs do not easily react with other substances, making them ideal as carriers for active drugs.\u00a0 Additionally, because they do not contain water, microbes do not grow in them, making added preservatives, which may be harmful, unnecessary.<\/p><p><b>Medical Uses in Eye Care:\u2028<\/b>SFAs are used to treat dry eye disease in both Europe and the United States. They are also used in certain types of retinal surgery.
