SFA+ Platform (Semifluorinated Alkanes)

Semi-fluorinated alkanes (SFAs) are clear, colorless liquids made from fluorocarbon and a hydrocarbon. SFAs do not easily react with other substances, making them ideal as carriers for active drugs.  Additionally, because they do not contain water, microbes do not grow in them, making added preservatives, which may be harmful, unnecessary.

Medical Uses in Eye Care:
SFAs are used to treat dry eye disease in both Europe and the United States. They are also used in certain types of retinal surgery. At Cloudbreak Pharma, we use SFAs and our proprietary SFA+ platform as a drug carrier for CBT-009 and CBT-199, providing meaningful benefits over water-based alternatives.
